Weaving in 3D

Weaving on the Edge

I have been experimenting with small 4 selvedge tapestry lately. My first experiment was a tiny piece on my copper pipe loom using the technique described by Sarah Swett on her inspiring blog,(afieldguidetoneedlework.com) I am still pretty much all thumbs when warping with this technique, but I am practicing. It’s worth the effort because once it’s set up, the weaving goes quickly. ( Later, once I’ve mastered the technique I will post a picture of my wonky little first effort.)

But in the meantime, Mirrix came out with a cute little portable loom with a clever tensioning device that also can be used to weave 4 selvedge pieces. (See my earlier post on a color interaction experiment).

So the next question that occurred to me was “Why stop at four?” How about thirteen? Can I weave a pop-up?

Turns out the answer is Yes!!!
