Color Harmony

Natural Color Again

Once again I find myself mulling over color interaction in tapestry. This small piece wasn’t the result of any particular plan—just weaving small squares in thin rectangles, choosing colors from a small basket of hand dyed wool—trying to select colors that would ‘sing’ when viewed side by side. When I was within an inch of being done, one of the warp threads gave way. Not wanting to abandon the piece, I tied in another pair and continued weaving. At the end, I cut the repair warps leaving long tails. Then I unplyed the ends and darned them into the weaving to hide them. Not perfect, but I was unwilling to abandon it. Probablly not a technique that would transfer to a larger format, but it rescued this little piece.

I did, however, discard that tube of 8/4 carpet warp. I don’t know how long I’ve had it, the the time frame would be measured in decades not merely months or years. I guess thread can get old and tired.
